Pavel Luka graduated from the Department of Software Engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies of the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. He worked at ESET while still a student, being involved in programming the second generation of the 16-bit NOD antivirus system for MS DOS known as NOD iCE.
In 2008, he joined the company’s top management as an IT Director. In this position, he supervised the development of infrastructure and the development of internal systems, such as the system for updating virus databases of one hundred million users worldwide. Since 2011 he has been Technology Director and responsible for the development, research and quality of products and services. Since January 2017, he has been the company’s Chief Operating Officer and he is also involved in strategic investments as well as management.
He is one of the co-creators of the idea of the ESET Research Centre which was opened in 2015 in cooperation with Comenius University in Bratislava and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. The centre is dedicated to information cybersecurity. He is a Board member of the ESET Foundation, he is largely involved in educational projects and also in the ESET Foundation’s flagship project, the ESET Science Award which supports Slovak science. He also supervises the ESET Campus project, in which ESET intends to build a technology innovation centre in Bratislava.
He is an avid and longtime photographer. With a camera in his hand, he has travelled to the USA, Canada, Namibia, Iceland, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, New Zealand and the Philippines. He regularly exhibits photographs all over Slovakia and has also provided the illustrations to several cookery books.
