Dr. Tomáš Bertók, MBA has completed all three academic degrees at Slovak University of Technology in Biotechnology field. Since 2010 he has been working for Institute of Chemistry of Slovak Academy of Sciences and since 2014 he acts as an independent researcher. In 2017 he co-founded Glycanostics, spol. s r. o. company that employs young scientists, regulation, production and business development in biomedicine professionals and holds status of scientific research institution where external doctoral students in biotechnology, biochemistry and analytic chemistry are trained.
He was awarded for his research as Top Student Personality of Slovakia, Young Scientist of the Year, received Danubius Young Scientist Award from Austrian Ministry of Science, Research and Economics, Top Innovative Young Entrepreneur Prize of Slovak Republic or Prize of the President of the Slovak Republic. He is also holder of Slovak Academy of Sciences and Czech Academy of Sciences Prize and two-time finalist of ESET Science Award under 35.
Along with Glycanostics company he advanced to world final of Startup World Cup in Silicon Valley (2022) among top 60 start-up companies from all over the world. Glycanostics received as one of the Slovak companies prestigious EIC Accelerator grant and EIC Transition grant for improving diagnostics of prostate, breast, lung, and pancreas cancer. For that reason the company was chosen as a member of European delegation with possibility to present own activities at worldwide conference Bio in Boston (2023).
Currently the company resides in Leipzig, Germany with certain plans to expand there in next year. Tomáš Bertók is an author of more than 60 scientific papers with approximately 2000 citations and H-index 24, three book chapters and editor of 2 books. One European patent was granted for his invention. Slovak Commission for Scientific Ranks granted him a possibility to defend Doctor of Sciences (DrSc.) degree already in 36 as one of the youngest scientists in Slovakia. He lives in Bratislava with his family.
