Prof. Mgr. Ivan Martinček, PhD. graduated in 1991 from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Comenius University in Bratislava, specialising in Physical Electronics and Microelectronics. After a year of internship in France at the Commissariat à l’énergie atomique, he joined the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Žilina in Žilina in 1993. At this university in 2002 he defended his dissertation in telecommunications, and in 2007 his habilitation thesis in the same discipline; in 2013 he inaugurated in electrotechnology and materials. From 2014, he has been a professor at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, University of Žilina. His present research activities focus on the design, development, production and study of properties of new types of optical fibres and fibre structures, the development of 3D polymer photonic structures for imaging applications, biophotonics and development, the production and testing of medical optical devices for use in gastroenterology.
