Establishing spin-off companies in academic environment is the rarest way used to commercialize the intellectual property in our circumstances. This is largely determined by complexity of the process, but we cannot omit other factors that cause this situation. How students and academic professionals understand starting technological companies and how they are considered on the other hand by experts responsible for transferring knowledge from academic sphere to practice? Are experts from the technology transfer centres ready to offer an assistance for those possibly interested in this way of commercialization? It often demands cooperation with external partners to successfully start and run each project. They can be for example investors that bring not only financial capital but many times also personal experience with company management in case of starting private companies. What information have these entities about existing spin-off companies created at our universities and what approach they demand if academic workplaces are seriously interested in cooperation with them?
